▸Notes & methodology
This board tracks 163 drones across ten categories, from sub-250g camera quadcopters you can buy today to loitering munitions, maritime vessels, and heavy-lift cargo aircraft. Each entry lists the maker, country of origin, release date, and status (concept, prototype, production, or deployed), plus the specs that decide whether a platform fits your mission: takeoff weight, flight time, payload, range, top speed, and price where a public figure exists. You can sort and filter to compare a Chinese camera drone against a US enterprise model, or line up strike UAVs by range, without hunting across a dozen spec sheets. Two fields carry extra weight for anyone buying for work rather than a hobby. The first is compliance status: NDAA-compliant means the drone avoids components from covered foreign entities, and Blue UAS means it has cleared the US Defense Innovation Unit vetting for government use, which governs whether public agencies and many contractors can legally fly it. The second is the flight-time and payload pairing, because those two numbers trade against each other on every airframe and set the real ceiling on what a mission can achieve. A drone that lifts more usually flies for less time, so reading both together tells you far more than any single headline number.

Frequently asked questions
What does NDAA-compliant mean for a drone?
The US National Defense Authorization Act bars federal agencies from buying or operating drones that use flight controllers, cameras, radios, or other core parts from covered foreign entities, mainly Chinese manufacturers. A drone labeled NDAA-compliant sources those parts outside that restricted supply chain. If you fly for a federal agency, or a state or contract that mirrors the federal rule, compliance decides whether you can use the aircraft at all.
What is the Blue UAS list?
Blue UAS is a cleared list maintained by the US Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). Aircraft on it have passed cybersecurity and supply-chain vetting and are approved for government purchase and operation without extra waivers. Blue UAS is a stricter bar than NDAA-compliant: every Blue UAS drone is NDAA-compliant, but only a small vetted subset earns Blue UAS status. On this board it is the highest compliance tier shown.
What is the sub-250g rule?
In the US, a drone weighing under 250 grams flown recreationally does not need FAA registration and is exempt from the Remote ID broadcast requirement, which is why so many camera drones are designed to land just under that line. You still have to follow airspace rules, altitude limits, and no-fly zones. If you fly the same sub-250g drone commercially under Part 107, registration is required regardless of weight. Europe applies a similar threshold through the C0 class under EASA rules.
Camera, enterprise, or agriculture drone: how do I choose?
Pick by the job. A camera drone suits photography, video, and general aerial work, and the sub-250g models are the easiest to start with. An enterprise camera drone adds thermal sensors, RTK positioning, and interchangeable payloads for inspection, mapping, and public safety. An agriculture drone is a spraying or spreading platform sized by tank and hopper capacity, so you compare it on payload and coverage per hour rather than image quality.
Is DJI banned in the United States?
As of 2026 DJI is not banned for consumers, and you can still buy and fly its drones recreationally in most of the country. DJI drones are barred from US federal procurement and from many state and public-safety contracts because they are Non-NDAA, and DJI faces import scrutiny and customs holds tied to a pending national security review. Several states add their own restrictions for government buyers. For personal use they remain legal, for public agency use they generally are not.
How do I read the specs on this board?
Weight is takeoff weight in grams, which drives registration and airspace rules. Flight time is quiet-hover or cruise endurance in minutes, and real missions run shorter with wind and payload. Payload is the useful lift in kilograms. Range is the tested control or mission radius in kilometers, usually a best-case figure in clear conditions. Read flight time, payload, and range together, since gains in one usually cost you in the others.
What is the difference between a strike UAV and a loitering munition?
A strike UAV carries munitions, releases them, and flies home to be reused, so its value is in repeated sorties. A loitering munition is the weapon itself: it circles an area, finds a target, and crashes into it, so each airframe flies once. Strike UAVs are compared on range and reusability, while loitering munitions are compared on range, warhead payload, and endurance before impact.
What does counter-UAS mean?
Counter-UAS, or C-UAS, covers systems built to detect, track, and defeat hostile drones. Methods include interceptor drones that ram or net a target, radio-frequency jamming that cuts the link or GPS, and directed energy. On this board these entries are rated on detection range, how they engage a threat, and how many drones they can handle at once, which is what matters as drone swarms grow.
Why does flight time drop when I add payload?
Lift costs energy. Carrying a heavier camera, spray tank, or parcel forces the motors to draw more current, which drains the battery faster and shortens endurance. That is why the same airframe can quote a long flight time empty and a much shorter one loaded. When you compare drones, check the flight time at the payload you actually intend to carry, not the empty-hover figure on the headline spec.
What do the status and origin fields tell me?
Status shows how real a drone is: concept and prototype mean it is still in development, while production and deployed mean you can buy or field it now. Origin is the country of the maker, which often signals likely compliance, since Chinese-built drones are typically Non-NDAA and many US and allied models are built to meet NDAA or Blue UAS standards. Together they help you filter aspirational hardware from aircraft you can operate this year.
